Some people have a problem with letting their kids play any and all video games at age 4 believing it's detrimental to a child's development but I really believe there are important character building and problem solving skills that a kid can learned playing the right games.
here's one of my kids favorite games and what I believe she gets out of playing it:
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (PS3)
This retro side scrolling 2D beat-em up is simple enough so that most kids can pick it up and play with a parent or a friend. It's beautifully rendered levels and cute character designs are endearing. Level progression is tough on your own but with a second player it becomes a bit easier.
It's a great game that helps your kid understand teamwork. Before you dismiss me as a gamer nerd dad gone mad, just hear me out. It's a multi player game that requires my child to come to the aid of a fallen comrade and resuscitate them in order to progress to the next level. You can also team up to help one another in and some levels require to keep the enemies distracted while the other person runs around collecting coins that you can share in the store to upgrade your favorite character's attributes.
So you get team work, selflessness, counting, patience, hand-eye coordination and learning how to be a gracious loser, a skill that if you've played anyone online, many adults have yet to learn.
I really love this game and further more I love playing it with my child.
Review Score:
Grandaiza: 4/5
Baby No: 5/5
here's a glimpse of the game in action in case you where thinking about getting it.

BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM: REVIEW
By John B.
What is Batman: Arkham Asylum? One of the best super hero experiences ever to grace a gaming console.
I've been reading comics longer than I've been playing quality console games and because of my love of comics I'm extra critical when the gaming industry attempts to deliver the energy and excitement of comics in game form. And with good reason, the last Batman game ( BATMAN BEGINS ) was just a shallow attempt to cash in quickly on a movie license.
Even the much lauded Spider-man games on PS2 fell flat in my opinion. The first game didn't allow spidey to climb, swing, jump or take the stairs down to the sidewalk, condemning Peter Parker to solitary confinement in an endless sea of rooftops.
The second was a repetitive hodgepodge of 5 missions in a beautifully recreated Manhattan occupied by 10 people.
( I do have to mention that the Ultimate spiderman game on the Xbox was awesome & the rare exception but by them most people game up on Spider-man games )
BATMAN: Arkham Asylum manages to do everything right.
A story by Paul Dini who has been spinning excellent Batman v. Joker yarns for almost 20 years ( who to me is right up there with the likes Denny O'Neill and Chuck Dixon ) .
Characters that look like they jumped out of the page and came to life ( You can see influences from all the great Batman artists )
Gameplay that takes what seems like a limited locale and manages to keep things fresh thanks to riddles by Edward Nigma, great pacing of action vs story and a nice variety of enemies that have complete control of the Asylum that means that they come at you from all sides.
In my honest opinion, anyone calling themselves a fan of good gaming and comics needs to go out and pick up INFAMOUS on the PS3 ( which in my opinion is hands down the reigning king of the "superhero" game.) Then go out play Batman which it a very close second.
INFAMOUS is done in the vein of Grand theft Auto, Sly Cooper and BATMAN:AA borrows from Assassins creed, Resident evil & Splinter cell formula. Both games improving on their predecessors by leaps and bounds.
For those of you on the XBOX 360 BATMAN is your only choice ...how sad (PS3 also has the JOKER as a playable character!)
here's a quick clip, enjoy.
(and yes it's all real gameplay footage)

WHAT DO I THINK OF BLAZBLUE FOR PS3?
I've been playing the PS3 version of BlazBlue for about a day now and the verdict is in....
The creators of this game are out of their effing minds, (in a good way) fast paced combos and moves that cancel into one another at blinding speeds, devastating super attacks and combo breaking defensive barriers are all here to confuse the hell out of you.
The gauges and defensive moves are a little overwhelming at first but if you've ever played any version Guilty Gear or Marvel vs Capcom, it should take you just a couple of button mashing, semi circles crunching matches to find the move set for each character ( or you could use the move list in the pause menu but where's the fun in that? )
Each character has their own unique power ( Ice, Wind, Lighting, life leaching ) and most characters have a familiar look and feel to them:
TAGER = HULK,
ARAKUNE = SHUMA GORATH
CARL = HSIEN KO
LITCHI = DONOVAN
TAOKAKA = FELICIA
Don't get me wrong, they're not ripoffs, but you can see where the creators at Ark System Works wanted to pay homage to those great Capcom characters.
I think it's a great game, made by 2D fighting game fans for fans thats' definitly worth the price of admission. ( Just make sure you have a fightstick or be prepared for some seriiuos thumb blisters)
Bonus! Here's a nice video with some secret moves...Shhhhhhhhhhhhh

WHAT I"M PLAYING NOW : STREET FIGHTER 4
I haven't been very productive as of late (see the date of my last post) and I have to blame CAPCOM's one two punch of STREET FIGHTER 4 and RESIDENT EVIL 5 ( in my case on the PS3 ) I've always been a fan of the one on one 2D fighting game, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike being the best of them in my humble opinion.
Now Street Fighter 4 jumps into the arena with a strong net code for online play and the ability to challenge someone in the middle of their arcade game. Although the presentation is 3D, the gameplay is classic Capcom 2D.
All I can say is that when my Two year old is tucked in fast asleep, I'm having a blast challenging people online. My wife however giggles evertime she hears the frantic, desperate button mashing on my HORI EX3 PS3 Fight stick when I'm trying to combo my way out of a jam.
In case you have no idea what I'm taking about, here's a video review.
enjoy

WHAT I'M PLAYING NOW : RESIDENT EVIL 5
RE:5 delivers everything that a game need to be a must have.
2 player CO-OP is a dream with a friend or even with someone you don't know. Either can pop in and out without interrupting your saved game and best of all, what ever treasure or money you find ( which you will need to beef up your weapons ) you share evenly.
weapons customization is simple and to the point. As a little incentive, when max out a weapon and then beat the game, you will then have the option of using that weapon with unlimited ammo the next time around.
Hordes of enemies to pick apart, this game does a great job of pacing the action giving you a wide selection of enemies at every corner.
The shoot / aim physics on the enemies is top notch, shoot them in the leg and they kneel ( setting them up for a punch or stomp ) two shots the head and most zombies go down with ease and if they're holding Molotov's cocktail, shoot the bottle and BOOM zombie flambe .
Great Boss battles!
to sum it up, an awesome addition to any gamers collection, I haven't had this much fun with a co-op game since the First GEARS OF WAR. (just be prepared for some gore)

STREET FIGHTER 4: REVIEW
STREET FIGHTER 4 has become my new gaming obsession, while it may not be as technically complex as SF 3: 3rd Strike, the gameplay is still way above any other next gen fighter.
It's basic gameplay schematic is simple enough for a novice to jump in and hold his own against a more experienced player, but rich with super moves, ultra moves , combos and counters to keep a veteran like myself busy for weeks at a time with each character.
The netcode on the PS3 version ( the only one I've tried ...for now ) is superb, even with a "red" connection I experienced little or no lag. Also hats off to Capcom for having a setting that allows an online challenger to interrupt the arcade mode to come in and challenge you ( just like an old school SF2 machine, the best way to test your skills is fighting strangers )
my review, if you like fighting games ( especially the street fighter series ) this is a MUST BUY. I just advise anyone who plans to challenge people online to invest in a decent arcade stick.
9.5 out of 10
BONUS:
here's a nice video with some Ultra moves from the game, enjoy.

PSP IMPORT REVIEW: GUNDAM vs GUNDAM
There's Hope for the PSP..
I Just got this game not expecting much since the last few gundam games have been a bit of a disappointment, but I happy to announce that the Gundam vs Gundam rocks.
the main game consists of 2 on 2 fighting on a 3D battle field from the various Gundam series / OVA's. The game takes 2 mobile suites from every Gundam series plus hidden characters for a total of over 20+ mechs to choose from. It takes the Virtual On / Powerstone approach to fighting, making it fast paced and easy to follow. The controls are very intuitive and after the fist couple of matches, getting the mobile suit to do what you wanted became second nature.
The Super moves for each mobile suit calls a screen filling attack from a giant support character that comes from flying in from space and rains death on your opponent. It's a fun game and if you happen to stumble upon it for a reasonable price ( or your a just fan of giant robots and you don't mind Japanese menus) This game is for you.
